Video Summary
Muhammad Jalal presents a study on the efficacy of ultramicrodose intrathecal morphine delivery for chronic pain treatment. The study aimed to define ultramicrodoses, less than 0.20 mg, and evaluate their effectiveness. Patients were enrolled in the trial from February 2016 to February 2020 at St. James Mercy Hospital. A single dose of 0.1-0.3 mg of preservative-free morphine was injected, and those with at least a 60% reduction in pain received a permanent catheter and morphine pump. The safety and efficacy of delivering ultramicrodoses, ranging from 0.065 mg to 0.195 mg, were assessed. Results showed a significant reduction in pain without complications or infections. The study suggests the need for a future multicenter study on this treatment option.
