Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): Update and New Directions
Course Overview
Video recording from the 2019 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting for the Practical Clinic Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): Update and New Directions.  Practical aspects of surgery for the treatment of Parkinsons disease, tremor and dystonia will be presented. Emphasis will be on anatomical and physiological targeting strategies, intraoperative decision-making, troubleshooting, complication avoidance and management. Cases and intraoperative scenarios will be presented for interactive discussion between the audience and faculty. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for emerging indications and practical considerations regarding the economics of DBS will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

After completing this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate patients with Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia for surgical management.
  • Apply the principles and techniques of DBS and lesioning surgeries.
  • Discuss emerging neurological and psychiatric indications for DBS.
