Sessions in Neurosurgery for the Advanced Practitioner - Trauma
Overview
A team of dedicated AANS neurosurgeons, nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) developed a series of online courses to provide comprehensive training for advanced practitioners involved in neurosurgical practices. This online course covers foundational knowledge and skills needed during the onboarding phase, particularly for advanced practitioners who are new to the neurosurgical specialty, to teach and/or reinforce key concepts.

Non-Operative Head Trauma/Concussion

  1. Discuss mechanisms of injury
  2. Recognize imaging protocols and appearance on plain head CT

Operative head trauma

  1. Identify radiologic appearance of EDH, SDH, and IPH
  2. Recognize operative indications for these types

Cervical Spine Trauma

  1. Identify radiographic definitions of C1 and C2 injuries
  2. Recognize radiographic definitions of facet jumping and locking

Thoraco-Lumbar Trauma

  1. Recognize radiographic classification of T-L injuries
  2. Discuss bracing options
