This session provides background of the controversies and evidence associated with the application of VTE prophylaxis in neurosurgery. Where appropriate, evidence-based guidelines are presented, specific applications in subspecialty neurosurgery are highlighted and research challenging traditional practice patterns and dogma is reviewed.
